Subash Acharya’s Paintings: Colours of Humanity & Himalayas

-N.P. Poudyal

Subash Acharya Agaman’s paintings urge for the global unity and humanity. Humanity can be saved in reality if the society is hunger-free, and that is possible if the nature is saved. For Agaman, the snow capped mountains and the nature as a whole is of supreme importance for the existence of human beings on earth. To speak the same in the powerful but in a silent language of  paintings, the sketches of pencil and brush should offer a critical insight to the world society, Agaman believes. His each line symbolizes and expresses something meaningful about his path of philanthropic humanitarian endeavours. His appeal through his paintings is: ‘Save Nature (Himalayas) and Save Humanity’. Mountains are the sources of life and the sources of water. Billions of people and other creatures exist on earth as the mountains exist. Hence, the painter tries to interweave the reality in his paintings too. Even in the decadence and bad predicament of the whole human race, he shows the bright hope in distant horizon with his excellent art of improvisation. His paintings even aim to sooth the pain and pangs of Nepalese nationals who are facing the difficulties after the destructive earthquake on last April (25 April 2015).

His humanitarian project reaches up to helping them through every means in short term. The paintings of Agaman exist in harmony with five elements of creation: air, water, fire, earth and metal. Most of his art forms, which are referential, aim to correct the societal errands and indifferences in order to create a hunger-free, healthy, nature-friendly human society. His prime purpose is to save human dignity and philanthropic culture.

Nature for Agaman is a prime factor of encouragement. He receives a special appeal from the nature to save it from the destructive hands of human beings, he admits.  Agaman is much worried by the regular news of ozone layer depletion, global warming, extinction of creatures, rapid melting of the snow caps, explosion of the glaciers, forest fire, irregular raining and the like. As a conscientious social member of the global society, he feels it is his duty to spread awareness in the society by doing what he knows. His canvas is thus the purposeful site of his battle against misconduct that human beings do against the nature. Plantation and saving the jungle can help the world society to save itself from the forthcoming hazards. Plantation not only helps the people to minimize the problems caused by the global warming but also contributes to protect the Himalayas. Agaman sees a very dangerous and sorrowful predicament of the forthcoming generation of every creature if the problem of melting of snow from the snow capped mountains remains the same. Without water no creature can exist and without the Himalayas no source of water can exist, he believes. Hence, he appeals through his canvas to save the nature, the Himalayas and to save the existence as a whole.

For Agaman, Humanity stands at first before the art; a man is a human at first before he invents himself as an artist. In this sense of reality, an artist has to contribute something for the humanity, Agaman argues. Saving Humanity is possible from empowering the minorities. Disable communities in Nepal are facing problem of basic living. Disable communities need to trained and motivated, so that they can exercise their rights equally. In this philosophical and practical line of thinking, Agaman’s art make an urgent call to all of us to work for that. Agaman himself is an active member of world society from Nepal who takes the money he gets by selling his art to the hands of Disable people. He wants to establish himself as an example of a nature-loving philanthropic painter who lives for the needy people.
